Retirement savings calculator

Project how much you could have saved by retirement from your current age and target retirement age, what you’ve saved so far, your monthly contribution and an expected annual return. It also splits the total into what you contributed and the growth from compounding.

How it works

Your balance grows each month at the monthly return (annual ÷ 12) and increases by your contribution. Over decades, compounding does most of the work — which is why starting early matters far more than starting big. Returns aren’t guaranteed, so treat this as a planning estimate.

Frequently asked questions

What return should I assume? A diversified long-term portfolio is often modelled around 5–7% before inflation; be conservative.

Why does starting early matter so much? Early contributions compound for longer, so they grow into a much larger share of the final total.
